It is easy to suppose she was a purchased bride, for shortly after landing in Port St Joe, near here, she was married and with child. A construction accident took her husband, and somehow she made her way to southeast Alabama to find my other ancestor, Joseph Arnold, a German passenger she had met on their Atlantic crossing. They were soon married and had many children, always giving their respective birth places in each decade’s federal census, a gift to genealogy searchers.
The census records are verifiable, and the narrative handed down through generations is too compelling to resist accepting as genuine.rjfaust@pobox.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20844150.post-51857492516582932302017-10-07T10:52:33.781-07:002017-10-07T10:52:33.781-07:00This is a powerful work. On the plus side this bluster and anger and fear and paranoia is always at its worst right after each of the events. We get back to our holding patterns and endure afterwards. What concerns me is the way we have cut ourselves off from the world when it comes to gun violence, poverty, healthcare and corporate corruption in our politics. We think we're an island as a people when we most certainly are not.
As for separating... it's an idea, one we've all been considering on both sides. However, the life afterwards is tenuous. Is it that fear that's keeps us together so miserably? If so, our dysfunction is so deep we may all well die, with our fear and our convictions unresolved, much less free.

Rick
Pembroke Pines, FLRick Tuckerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17427554955346329594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20844150.post-27180656125931865032017-10-07T08:27:32.475-07:002017-10-07T08:27:32.475-07:00Love this piece, Nonnie - you have a very sharp pe...
Love this piece, Nonnie - you have a very sharp pen.
Split up?
